[News Dvd] Criterion : les prochaines sorties

Criterion poursuit son travail éditorial de qualité en éditant dans les semaines à venir quelques perles de cinéastes déjà présents à leur catalogue. En mai, sortira en effet « La vengeance est à moi » de Shohei Imamura après « The pornographers », publié dans la collection il y a deux ans. Le film était déjà disponible chez l’équivalent anglais de Criterion, l’éditeur Eureka et sa collection « Masters of cinema », mais dans une copie décevante reprise par ailleurs par MK2 en France. On verra si Criterion offre une copie supérieure, si c’est le cas, le dvd deviendra l’édition de référence de ce classique du cinéma japonais.
Du côté des classiques nippons, on retrouvera Mizoguchi et «L’intendant Sansho », disponible chez nous dans le coffret volume 1 consacré au réalisateur par Carlotta.
Enfin, deux films publiés en France par Studio Canal verront le jour sous la bannière de l’éditeur New Yorkais : « Le troisième homme » de Carol Reed et « L’armée des ombres » de Jean-Pierre Melville. Le premier ne nécessitera sans doute pas le rachat, alors que le film de Melville sera agrémenté de nombreux bonus par rapport à notre version hexagonale. Une nouvelle fois, l’édition de référence d’un classique français sera sans doute à aller trouver outre Atlantique !

En juin, Criterion porposera en exclusivité mondial « If… » de Lindsay Anderson, qui quelques années avant Kubrick mettait déjà en scène Malcom McDowell dans un film traitant de la violence de la jeunesse dans la société anglaise. Sortiront également deux films du réalisateur yougoslave Dusan Makavejev traitant de la libération sexuelle en Europe de l’Est et un double programme avec « La jetée » et « Sans soleil » de Chris Marker, déjà disponibles en France et dont le rachat ne se justifiera pas, en l’absence de l ‘« Armée des 12 singes » en supplément de luxe. Cinéma français toujours avec « Le vieil homme et l’enfant » de Claude Berri à paraître également en juin.

Pas de vacances pour Criterion puisqu’en juillet, l’éditeur proposera un coffret de trois films de Hiroshi Teshigahara : Pitfall, The Face of another et Woman in the dunes. Les deux premiers sont déjà disponibles chez Eureka en Angeleterre et le dernier vient de ressortir chez nous en salle dans une version intégrale, ce qui laisse supposer une édition dvd d’ici à la fin de l’année. Les trois films seront disponibles à l’unité mais le coffret contiendra un quatrième dvd avec quatre courts métrages du réalisateur : Hokusai (1953), Ikebana (1956), Tokyo 1958 (1958), et Ako/White Morning (1963). Tarkovski retrouve le chemin de Criterion avec « L’enfance d’Ivan » qui reprendra sans doute le magnifique transfert de MK2. « Les enfants terribles » poursuivra le cycle Melville commencé plus tôt par Criterion et enfin, « L e gouffre des chimères » de Billy Wilder se fera sans doute une place de choix dans la vidéothèque de tout cinéphile qui se respecte.
